Good story...very sweet...Christian theme...I always like to read about pioneer doctoring...people who travelled by wagon train were the bravest of brave.
Nice story of a young couple, married for convenience, who found love crossing the trails to the west. Christian theme with no foul language and no bothersome crime or criminals. I enjoyed reading it. Very refreshing. Kudo's to the author!
This book was great! I am so glad all turned out well. The women were so strong back in the 1800s. They were brave and dealt with so much sorrow! This book took you right along with them. Very good read!
I rated it 4, because I enjoyed reading about the adventures they went through going out west. I enjoy an easy reading book while I sit with my husband as he watches TV, but I, also, want it to be interesting. I think this book filled both of these.
This book was a joy to read except it was too short. The hero was everything you could want in one. The love of his life could have been better, she was just shy of wimpy. This story has the potential to be a great series where I hope to read more about this couple.
Rose,all alone and Luke very independent.Luke's solution is to marry Rose,but before he can even kiss his bride they are off on a westward journey. With God as their mast e r and a good guide, they progress, through one minor catastrophe after another. Love wins in sickness and in health on the trail.
Love's golden quest is a light enjoyable read about a hurried arranged marriage and the overland trail west. You won't learn anything new about the wagon train west as its been done so many times before, so I was hoping the author would concentrate more on interaction between characters to make the story fresh. She partly succeeded.The first third of the book was frankly a tad boring but as the characters came into the story my interest was piqued. However, the H/H never "got under my skin" and there were too many loose ends.
For example, there is a fiery haired character named Prudence who defies convention by wearing no bonnet or shoes. People whisper and we are led to believe there is some truth to their head shaking.
In one instance, Prudence gives the lead female some "grapes" to eat, while she eats none. The female lead promptly gets food poisoning and me [the reader] assumes its the grapes causing the sickness and therefore Prudence 'has it in for her'. But the story never says that. The lead female wonders if its the grapes or the duck eggs she ate....whaaat? So Prudence (if she was mal-intentioned) never is called on it. You're left hanging.
Theres another instance where Prudence gets a bucket of water thrown at her because she's 'chatting up' the lead's husband. We never hear from Prudence again....where did she go?
One of the women on the wagon train is pregnant with her fifth child and as the time nears she comes to the conclusion that she is going to die. She is put on 'wagon rest' with her ankles are swollen etc. Pre enclampsia maybe? We don't know but she 'feels that something is wrong'. Ok, she's had 4 kids already I would assume she knows what she is talking about. But apparently she doesn't cos when she thinks she's bleeding to death she's just wet from her waters breaking (seriously, she's had 4 kids already and she doesn't know what that feels like? )I am in suspended disbelief when she promptly delivers a healthy 9 lb baby boy. Mother and baby healthy. yay!
Oh! And one other thing...the title. Just so you know, there is NO MENTION OF GOLD IN THE BOOK. I guess the author (or editor) just thought it looked catchy in the title...
It's things like this where you don't quite know what to make of it...
It's an ok read for a rainy afternoon but not a "re-read" book.
FYI No violence, sex or cussing
